Short color science training measurably improves shade matching
Shade matching is treated as something clinicians acquire through experience. Our 2025 study tested whether it can be taught directly, with a short and targeted intervention rather than years at the chair.
The training was deliberately brief and focused on color science fundamentals applied to light-colored teeth, where matching is hardest and errors are most visible. Accuracy improved measurably against baseline.
The practical implication is that a skill assumed to be tacit is at least partly explicit, and therefore teachable on a schedule a curriculum can accommodate.
