Reading an academic CV the way a search committee reads it
A search committee gives a CV a few minutes on the first pass. They are looking for a trajectory, evidence of independence, and a reason this candidate fits this position.
Chronological completeness works against all three. A CV that lists everything in order forces the reader to construct the argument themselves, and most will not.
Group by what the committee is assessing. Put the work that establishes independence where it will be seen. Make the through-line explicit rather than leaving it implied by dates.
The same record, reordered, frequently converts where it previously did not.
